Martin Luther King,Jr.

Tomorrow we celebrate a truly remarkable man who left a legacy which continues to inspire and transform lives.  Here are some of his words which I hold dear and find convicting:

“Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation.  The foundation of such a method is love.”

It sounds so simple, yet we have failed thus far to consistently implement this truth.  Research continues to show an increase in bullying.   We see the “Breaking News” crawlers reporting yet another school shooting, mall shooting, movie theater shooting.   Abuse rates continue to rise and divorce rates are not falling.  Why are we so intent on revenge, aggression and retaliation?  Understandably the one on the giving end of these behaviors experiences power…but is it  really worth the cost?  I wonder how much more powerful we would feel if we tried to express our love.  MLK was on to something big.
